Hey there! I’m Sarah Nguyen

Educational Content Director | Zoologist | Reptile Rescue Volunteer | Age 36
Oregon-based educator who believes knowledge is the key to every gecko’s well-being.

My Story

My love for reptiles started in college while studying zoology. I was fascinated by how leopard geckos could thrive in such diverse environments when given the right care. At the same time, I began volunteering at local reptile rescues, where I saw firsthand the challenges these animals face when owners lack proper information.

Combining my academic background with my rescue work, I discovered a passion for making reptile care knowledge more accessible. I wanted to bridge the gap between scientific information and beginner-friendly guidance — and that’s exactly what I do at Reptizen.com.

The Turning Point

One rescue experience stands out vividly. A surrendered leopard gecko arrived emaciated, with retained shed around its toes. Its previous owner loved it dearly but simply didn’t know how to care for it. Helping that gecko recover — and teaching the owner what went wrong — reinforced my belief that education is just as vital as rescue work.

That day solidified my mission: to create resources that make reptile care clear, approachable, and free of judgment.

What I Learned the Hard Way

In my early rescue days, I assumed that sharing information alone would lead to better care. But I quickly realized that tone and trust matter just as much as accuracy. Overwhelming someone with complex terms or criticism often pushes them away.

I learned to break concepts down into simple steps, offer encouragement, and create a safe space where people feel comfortable asking questions — even if they think they’re “basic.”

My Approach Now

Today, I focus on transforming reptile care knowledge into easy-to-follow, confidence-boosting content. I design care guides, checklists, and tutorials that remove guesswork while explaining the “why” behind each step.

Whether it’s a first-time gecko owner or someone upgrading their setup, I aim to give them the tools and reassurance they need to succeed.

What I Believe

  • Every question about reptile care is worth asking.
  • Learning should be a welcoming and judgment-free experience.
  • Clarity and kindness go hand in hand with accuracy.
  • Education prevents neglect more effectively than rescue alone.
  • Small, consistent improvements lead to long-term reptile health.

How I Can Help You

Through Reptizen.com, I create beginner-focused articles, downloadable care sheets, and video tutorials that make reptile care less intimidating. I cover everything from enclosure basics and feeding schedules to enrichment ideas and troubleshooting common issues.

I also moderate our online community spaces, ensuring they remain friendly, supportive, and informative — a place where keepers can grow together.

A Little More About Me

Outside of my work at Reptizen.com, I love hiking in the Pacific Northwest, photographing local wildlife, and crafting enrichment items for my own reptiles. I also enjoy reading natural history books and experimenting with terrarium design.
